Volunteering with the North Durham Group

Do you want to make a difference to those affected by MS - If so this is for you

Volunteers are the key to our success both nationally and locally. We're a UK-wide community of volunteers, fundraisers, researchers and campaigners working together to stop MS.

So our volunteers are at the heart of everything we do. The North Durham group covers Durham, Chester Le Street, Derwentside and surrounding areas and is led by a team of volunteers.

We currently have exciting team volunteering opportunities for a number of new volunteers to make a difference to the local MS Community.  You will become team members within an existing team whose role is to promote the presence of the North Durham group, to raise funds for the group in order that we can provide help and support to the local community and coordinating the activities of the local group to meet the needs of people with MS.  These are all hands on roles which include not only organising but taking an active part in the work of the whole team and the group.

Admin Volunteer is the linchpin for MS Society group activity. They act as the first point of contact for groups, and play an important role in keeping our data and details up to date to comply with data protection legislation.

Fundraising Volunteer is responsible for organising and running the raising of funds for the local group. This is essential to finance the group's services, grants, events and activities for people affected by MS. Our Fundraising Volunteers plan and run events, develop links with local organisations and deliver awareness activities to promote the needs of people affected by MS.

Activities Organiser: you’ll play a crucial role in developing, planning and running activities and events with your our group. You’ll be responsible
making sure they’re run safely and effectively to make the most impact. You’ll take a lead role at events on the day and inspire your fellow volunteers to get involved.
In this role you’ll be able to develop your organisational, communication,
administration and negotiation skills.
Most importantly you’ll support delivery of vital services to people within your local MS community

Casual Volunteers

We always need volunteers at events. You don’t have to make a regular commitment but can give their time when it’s needed and fits in with their other arrangements. We're just pleased to have you on board be it a onetime thing or a once every now and then thing!

For more infomation on all the above roles please contact Lucy Virgo Volunteer Support Officer on 0300 500 8084 or email
